If all of this came up before the draft I don't think I'd have a single problem with it, but again I will say that we are already more then halfway through the MiLB draft. I don't think I really need to remind anyone that this is not the best time to be changing rules, especially one as significant as to how long you can retain your minor league players. The rules were in place before the draft and everyone knew the exact same rules and some of us may have built our draft stategy around these rules. In my opinion, changing it now will be unfair to whoever might have drafted based on the current contract situation; yet I do understand that the current system is probably not the best. I'm glad I'm not the one who has to make the final decision because it is not an easy one to make in my mind. No matter what is done, someone is going to be left disappointed.
As I stated before, I will follow whatever rules Tyler sets down as long as I feel they maintain fairness and integrity. I may or may not like his decision, but I will follow and support whatever he decides to do. That's all I have to say about this whole matter.

You're one of the owners who stands to loose the most, but you have to agree that in the long run, something needs to be done to ensure this league is as successful as possible. Just out of curiosity, do you have any kind of idea on how to fix this or do you strictly want to keep things as is?

No, I don't have any ideas on how change the way the minor leagues work. The reason would be because I don't have any interest in changing the rules so I haven't put any thought or effort into how to most effectively do so. I have read some pretty interesting ideas on this thread, but I'm not going to endorse or condemn any of them specifically. All I will say is that I have no desire to change the rules during the middle of the draft and that I will support whatever Tyler decides to do in the end. In short, I'm pretty useless to this conversation other than being a space filler.

Thanks for all the responses. There are a lot of good ideas here, but the things is, is that it's too late to go revolutionizing the current system for the minor leaguers we are drafting now. It's not fair to draft under one set of rules for 9 rounds then switch it.
So all I'm going to do for this initial draft is just add the contracts and give owners the resigning option. In short everything in my original post is now a rule.
However, starting with the July draft I would like to adopt one of the ideas mentioned where a player's contract does not start until they hit a major league roster or something of that nature. We need to figure this out next.
Once again I'm doing what I feel is best for the league and not trying to screw any particular owner here. What I need us all to do now is figure out the best system of how to handle the July draft players.
All the best.
Tyler
