I don't think this is a topic that has been covered. Espn allows for the creation of divisions and I think this would be a great way to develop some friendly rivalries. With 16 teams, you could make two 8 team divisions or four 4 team divisions. I'd prefer the 4 divisions. If we use 4 team divisions, the top 2 teams in each division could make the playoffs or we could use some kind of wild card system.
Thoughts?

if we have divisions, I would rather have divisions of 8. You could easily end up with the best teams in one division which I don't really like too much. If you do the divisions, do you play everyone or just the teams in the division? I am new to espn.

you play everyone but you would play the teams in your division more. I like the 4 team division idea that Tom brought up.

I just seems like it would make it easier for a weak team to make the playoffs to me. Get in the right division, and be better than two of the teams and you are in. Well, I stated my case, so I will leave it to the commish.

I think that we should just start a poll to see what everyones opinion is.

I mean I will go with whatever Tyler does, but I think that 8 team division would be a better indicator of who the better teams are. The division idea is pretty cool, but with four, a top three team may be left out IMO. I think having 2 divisions would be fun though. This is just my opinion, so I don't want anyone to take it personally or anything. Everyone likes what they like, and that is cool.

I don't really care too much either way, 2 or 4 divisions makes no difference to me. About having 4 divisions though, I think it would depend on how we determine playoff teams. Having the 4 division winners make the playoffs and than having 4 wildcard spots that go to the 4 best remaining records would be best, in my opinion, rather than the top 2 teams from each division.
If we did choose 4 divisions and one of them ended up with the 3 best teams in the league, it would always be possible to reorganize them for the next season. Although, with contracts in this league I think there is potential for a lot of roster turnover, which could make a good team bad and bad team good very quickly.

you play everyone but you would play the teams in your division more. I like the 4 team division idea that Tom brought up. What was Tom's idea? Also, I don't agree with everybody saying that 4 team division would be a bad idea because a top 3 team could be left out. Think about it, is it not like that in MLB? What about the American League East next year? The Yankees, Devil Rays, and Red Sox could very well be 3 of the top teams in the majors. Put any of those three teams in the National League West and I can guarantee they're making the playoffs. Plus, if you go with 8 team divisions, isn't there a chance the top 8 teams are in one division? Finally, how can you classify who the top teams are before the season starts? Wow, sorry for the rant. Like Braves said, no matter what Tyler decides, I'm on board.

If I came up with one before I honestly don't remember it. When you spout off as much as I do, you tend to forget some of the things you say.

last year i had a league that had 4 divisions in which the 4 division winners made the playoffs and then the next 4 best teams. it was kind of like the nfl where if they were the best in the league 3 teams from 1 division could make the playoffs. (16 team league btw)

I love the idea of divisions. I have never been in a division league in baseball so it should be fun. As someone suggested, I will create a poll about 4 vs. 2 divisions.

yeah, I am perfectly fine with the four divisions as long as the winner from each division goes to the playoffs and then the next four best teams. That is a very good idea. That solves the problem of the best teams missing out like in the actual mlb. That will be fun. ;D

Question for those who have done the division route before. Do we make the divisions or does the computer decide who goes where?

I'm almost 100% sure you can assign divisions if you want.

Come to think of it, on ESPN the league creator can assign division names and the teams in each division (at least that's how it was for fantasy football this year).

If that's the case I think the easiest way would be to break it up geographically. So if you do not have your location in your team name can you all please send me a PM telling me what stat you are in?
If someone else thinks they have a better way to break the league up I'd be open to hearing it.

That sounds fair, and it is better than drawing them from a hat. How much do the teams in each division play each other and how often out of the division. Just wondering how repetitive it will be.
